My Olympic experience, in Italia!

With the Vancouver Olympics well underway, I can't help but look back on my own experience with the Olympics. I was studying aboard in Florence in 2006 when the winter Olympics were in Torino. I had the pleasure (and luck!) to go to Torino for 24 hrs to see the luge and USA women's ice hockey. It was a whirlwind!

My friends and I took the train from Florence through Milan to Torino in the weee hours of the morning. Italians are sooo laisez-faire and la-dee-da (in a good way normally, but not what it comes to THE OLYMPICS!), so when we got off the train in Torino, there was no direction, no signs... we were lost.

Somehow, I don't know how to this day, we figured out that we had to take a 45 min train to the Alps for the luge. So here we are at the luge event.... which was AMAZING. They go so incredibly fast- it took me 100 times to get my camera to capture it just right. The luge is a great event because you can walk around and stand & cheer at different parts of the track. Not to mention, it was in the Italian Alps!

Sadly, we totally didn't plan well, and we missed nearly all of the women's hockey game by the time we got back to the main Olympic village. We caught the last 5 mins, lol.

After taking our classic Olympic pics and picking up some souvenirs, it was back on the train for an overnight ride back to Florence...just in time for Italian class ;)

I always wondered how hard it would be to capture a photograph of someone on the luge! :)

  7. Experiencing the Olympics is incredible, I have fond memories of Athens in 2004! I missed my own city ones in 1992 but back then I was anyway to young to truly enjoy it, I'm really looking forward to London in 2 years as we will probably still be living here so I might as well enjoy it!
Lovely pictures, thanks for sharing xoxo
