"July 4, 2010, the first 4th of July that I wasn't with my family on the damp sand of Gooch's Beach. On my roof trying to remember: The cool breeze drifting on shore. Refreshing on tender skin, a consequence of the day lying under the hot and humid sun. The whole town, mostly tourists and rowdy local teens, amassing around us, up and down the boardwalk once the beach was fully packed. Posing with my younger cousins for family photographs, the flash blinding, cutting through the faint light, and wildly dancing sparklers through the air, white diamonds shooting every which way. Looking out over the equivocal ocean as boats gathered, one after another from the port, jealous, wishing I could enjoy that view. The sun hardly below the horizon, stars starting to burn holes through the night, eagerly waiting for the first colorful explosion. Then trying my hardest to hear my mother Ohh and Ahh as each vibrant burst lights up the night sky. Knowing for certain that these are the movements I'll remember and cherish most. Finally understanding what it, life, is really all about."
Thanks, Kyle!
