Can you believe it's been 9 years? I cannot.... that day still seems very real. Last year, I wrote this post. This year, I think it's nice to remember this day in pictures and thank our lucky stars that we haven't had an attack like this again *knock on wood.
These photos by Joe McNally are from the Faces of Ground Zero exhibition. I actually saw them on display at the Boston Public Library not long after 9/11. It was amazing to see these towering Polaroids, each with a short story about the subject(s) and their involvement on that day, up close and personal, with the shock of that day still buzzing through my body, through the country, and around the world.
What will you do to remember this day?

Wow. What an incredible - and moving - exhibit.
ReplyDeleteI remember I was at home, when it happened I called my friend and we were silent on the phone for about 30 minutes. Awful day. Hope it will be the last one as it happens to us.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend girl!

I get chills everytime... Great exhibition to honor real heroes
ReplyDeleteI will...be thankful that my Uncle was okay throughout the ordeal - he worked right near Ground Zero; and pray for the families of those who didn't make it. :(
ReplyDeleteit's definitely surreal that it's been 9 years. it feels like it's been 4 years. crazy.
ReplyDeletelovely exhibit. i was able to see the progress of construction on the memorial when I was in NY for BlogHer.
Thank you for sharing this post, Jaime. I can hardly believe it's been nine years, either. I still remember it like yesterday. This is such a lovely and moving exhibit.

I saw a bunch of dressed up firemen & policemen all over NY yesterday. I still remember it happening when I was in 6th grade, coming home early from school and seeing it happen on tv :(
ReplyDeleteI really can't believe that it's been that long. I feel like I was sitting in the student union at my college staring up at the tv just yesterday! We will definitely never forget.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a powerful display. I can only imagine what that was like to see in person. Unreal that it's been 9 years.
ReplyDeleteI know, I can't believe it's been so long- damn. I remember that day so well as I think we all do. I just kind of thought about it for a bit and had a glass of wine and a discussion with my boyfriend. Next year will be quite momentous.
ReplyDeleteHi Jaime, that is an interesting photo project, I've never seen it before. It has been so long. I was there, actually, and I just try to have a moment of silence, pray and sometimes talk to some NY friends as well. Thanks for remembering!
ReplyDeletethe 9 years since have flown by. ill never forget that day...
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Jaime, thanks for sharing... I was addicted to reading the hashtag #whereweyou on Twitter. It's truly amazing to hear everyone's stories – I will never forget.
ReplyDeleteI was at Ground Zero on Saturday at the 9/11 memorials & I just posted a bunch of my photographs from the ceremony on my blog in case you want to check them out:

I still get a chill when I think of that day, though I'm not American. It made the whole world sit up and take notice.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe its been 9 years & the fact that its still so raw in our memories is a testament that society will not forget. This past 9/11 I was actually working as a flight attendant & my co-workers were telling me their stories of where & how they were stuck elsewhere due to the no-fly & how one fellow co-worker lost her husband that day in the tower.
