My winter getaway must-haves

In preparing for my Florida getaway, while I had difficulty packing, I knew I needed the essentials for every instance...

for catching some rays poolside on the roof: a good book (my current read) + sunscreen + hat

for shopping at my fave West Palm store: comfy walking sandals + sunglasses
My new cat eye Tory's I got for xmas

for sipping a martini at the perfectly named Blue Martini: fun wedge sandals + clutch + camera
me and my dad, Jan 2007

What are your winter getaway must-haves when traveling?

In anticipation of Oscars...

Barbra Streisand's Scaasi pantsuit, 1969
Just in time for Sunday's Academy Awards, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has a special exhibition open through March 6.  Four exquisite gowns, worn by such lovely ladies as Cate Blanchett and Barbra Streisand, will be on display in the museum's Fenway entrance.
Cate Blanchett Galliano dress
Cate Blanchett's John Galliano gown, 1999

I hope to see this Galliano dress that Cate Blanchett wore when I go next week. While I'm there, I'll take a stroll down the new Art of the Americas Wing and see Scaasi: American Couturier.
Anyone else looking forward to Sunday's fashions as much as me?  I am sure so :)

Hipstamatic snapshots

One of my favorite apps for my new iPhone is Hipstamatic, which creates "analog digital prints".  With 4 different lenses, I've only used one so far (still learning), the pics have a vintage quality and are lightly framed.

Here are some recent snapshots..

DIY: threaded bracelets

When I first posted this woven chains bracelet DIY in my Friday Faves last month, both my mom and friend Amanda wanted to do them.  When Amanda booked her trip here for this past weekend, we figured what better time to try this fun project?

My mom went out and bought 2 types of chains and multiple thread colors for us...

We got to work on our first bracelet each....I chose the black chain with blue, turquoise, magenta, and green thread.

Molly wanted to be in on the action...

Amanda chose the black chain with pink, white and blue thread.

The finished products!

(first bracelets)
(second bracelets- solid thread and gold chains, double!)

Overall, it was a relatively easy (and very cheap!) DIY. My only gripe was when braiding the thread, you def need an extra set of hands to tightly hold the chain.
