One of the coolest things we did on Kauai (
the second island on our Hawaiian honeymoon) was actually quite spontaneous. After spending a day at
Waimea Canyon, we drove to the south shore of Kauai to
Poipu Beach. We noticed right away that there were snorkelers swimming out to a sand bar with reef. Luckily we had packed our swimsuits; we quickly changed, grabbed the GoPro (thanks, brother!), and started the walk out to the sandbar.
We were amazed at how warm the water was and how rough the current was! There were 2 currents meeting in the middle for the area where you walked from the main beach the sandbar. It was more difficult than we expected to get there but once we did, we found shells, coral, and fish to explore.
I took a video (that I haven't edited yet) of a fisherman catching this fish with a net. It was so cool!
The waves crashing over the reef was such a quintessential Hawaii moment.
